FAQs

What is the difference between natural and lab-grown diamonds?

Both natural and lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds with the same physical and chemical properties. The main difference is their origin: natural diamonds are formed over millions of years beneath the earth’s surface, while lab-grown diamonds are created in controlled lab environments in a matter of weeks. Lab diamonds are often more affordable and environmentally conscious, while natural diamonds may hold more long-term value or sentimental significance. We offer both options depending on your preferences.

How do you ensure ethical sourcing and high standards?

We’re committed to sourcing materials with integrity. Our gemstones and diamonds are selected from trusted partners who follow ethical and sustainable practices. That includes adherence to the Kimberley Process for conflict-free diamonds and working with suppliers who value fair labor, environmental responsibility, and transparency.

What is gemstone hardness, and why does it matter?

Gemstone hardness refers to how well a stone resists scratches and everyday wear. It’s measured using the Mohs scale, which ranges from 1 (softest) to 10 (hardest). Diamonds rank at 10, making them ideal for everyday jewelry like engagement rings. Softer stones, like opals or emeralds, are beautiful but may require more care and are better suited for occasional wear or protected settings.

How does the process work 100% virtually?

Our custom jewelry process is fully virtual—designed to be convenient, exciting, discreet, and completely tailored to you. We start with a free virtual consultation, where you share your ideas and inspiration. From there, we’ll send you design sketches, stone options, and detailed CAD renderings to refine your piece together.

How do I get my finger size?

You can order a ring sizer or pop into a local jewelry store and ask if they can measure your finger. If you're between sizes or unsure, we’re happy to help guide you. Keep in mind that wider bands may fit more snugly, and your finger size can vary slightly depending on time of day and temperature.

What’s the ETA for my custom piece?

Most custom pieces take about 4-6 weeks from the time your final design is approved. This includes CAD modeling, sourcing stones (if needed), and handcrafting your finished jewelry.

How do I insure my jewelry?

We highly recommend insuring your custom jewelry for peace of mind. While your jewelry is fully insured during shipping, once it’s in your hands, it’s a good idea to have it covered for loss, theft, or damage.

We recommend Jewelers Mutual, a trusted company that specializes in jewelry insurance. They offer standalone coverage that can protect your piece wherever you go. We do not provide appraisals, however you can use your invoice to help set up your plan.

Can I use my own stones or metal?

Yes, you can absolutely use your own stones! We love incorporating meaningful or heirloom gemstones and diamonds into custom designs.

Ethical Standards

At Linnea Taylor Jewelry, we are committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in every aspect of our operations. We strictly adhere to the Kimberley Process, a global initiative that prevents the trade of conflict diamonds, ensuring all our gemstones are sourced responsibly. Our supply chain partners are required to follow fair labor practices, safe working conditions, and environmentally sustainable mining methods, in line with industry leaders such as Tiffany & Co. and Cartier. We are dedicated to transparency, traceability, and accountability, ensuring our customers can trust that every piece they purchase supports ethical sourcing and responsible craftsmanship.

Refund Policy

Due to the custom nature of our work, refunds are not available once the final design has been approved. At that point, materials are ordered and work begins, so any services already rendered will be billed accordingly.

However, loose gemstones may be returned prior to being set, depending on the supplier’s return policy. If you have any concerns or need to make adjustments before final approval, we’re always happy to work with you during the design process to ensure everything is just right.
