Frequently asked questions

Good to know.

Everything you might be wondering before we start designing together. Don’t see your question? Just ask.

How does the custom design process work?

Every piece starts with a conversation about your style, your story and your budget. From there it moves through four stages: a hand sketch (this is also when we source your stone), a precise 3D CAD model, an optional wax model you can hold, and finally casting, setting and hand-finishing. You review and approve the design along the way, so nothing moves into production until it feels right.

How long does a custom engagement ring take?

Most rings take about 4–8 weeks from approved design to finished piece. Timing depends on the complexity of the design, stone sourcing and any revisions. I’ll share an estimated timeline during your consultation. Timelines are estimates rather than guarantees, so if you have a proposal date in mind, let me know as early as you can.

How much does a custom engagement ring cost?

Because every ring is designed from scratch, there’s no set price list. Cost depends mainly on the center stone, the metal and the detail in the design. We’ll talk through your budget during your consultation, and you’ll receive a quote before any work begins. I’m always happy to design around a budget.

Do you offer in-person or virtual consultations?

Both. I meet with clients in person throughout Greater Seattle and the Eastside, and virtually for anyone farther away or short on time. All consultations are by appointment. Request a consultation and I’ll be in touch to find a time.

Where are you located?

I’m based in Woodinville, Washington, and work with clients across Greater Seattle and the Eastside, including Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland and Seattle. There’s no walk-in storefront; everything is by appointment.

Can I use my own diamond or a family heirloom?

Often, yes. Many meaningful pieces start with a stone that’s been in the family. I’ll inspect your stone first. Older or previously set stones can carry a risk of damage during resetting, and I’ll discuss anything I notice with you before work begins.

Do you work with natural or lab-grown diamonds?

I can help you explore both natural and lab-grown diamonds, as well as colored gemstones, and walk you through the differences in look, durability and cost so you can choose what’s right for you.

What metals do you work with?

Most often 14K and 18K gold in yellow, white and rose, and platinum. Some designs combine metals, such as a platinum head on a yellow-gold band. We’ll choose what suits your design and how you’ll wear it.

Are your stones ethically sourced?

Yes. I’m committed to working with conflict-free, ethically sourced stones and suppliers I trust.

Is a deposit required?

Custom work typically begins with a deposit, with the remaining balance due before or at pickup. The exact payment terms for your piece are set out in your written agreement.

Do you make jewelry other than engagement rings?

Yes. Alongside engagement rings I design wedding bands, heirloom redesigns and other custom fine jewelry. The process is the same: it starts with a conversation.

How do I find my ring size?

The most accurate way is a professional sizing. If you’re planning a surprise, there are a few workarounds. See Sizing & Returns for tips, and I’m happy to help.

Can my ring be resized, and do you accept returns?

Many designs can be resized, though some styles can’t be easily. Because every piece is made to order, custom work is final sale. Full details are on the Sizing & Returns page.

How should I care for my ring?

Take your ring off for the gym, swimming, cleaning and gardening, and store it on its own so harder stones can’t scratch it. Clean it gently with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. It’s a good idea to have prongs and settings checked periodically, especially on a ring you wear every day.
